In an age where both mobile data and customer expectations continue to rise, the importance of addressing carrier network capacity and coverage issues is more critical than ever. WiFi has experienced its own unique renaissance as the unlicensed spectrum technology of choice, providing carriers with a myriad of opportunities and challenges. On the licensed spectrum side, interest in small cell technology has risen enormously in the last 12 months, and with investment and development continuing to grow, there is no doubt that small cells are here to stay. Offload and guaranteed QoS & QoE continue to be the primary motivators for carriers to examine the potential of both WiFi and Small Cells, and although both can achieve a similar aim, each comes with its own set of unique challenges and opportunities.

The inaugural Wifi and Small Cells North America event attracted 200 + attendees when it took place in Boston last month on April 24-25. These two co-located events provided carriers with a focused and distinctive opportunity to learn from and network with all the leading industry decision makers. Whether their expertise and interests lie with Small Cells, WiFi or both, the focused individual content and shared exhibition and networking space presented a fantastic opportunity to hear from the best in the business and form valuable new relationships.

Ixia Helps Contact Centers Improve Customer Service With Increased Network Reliability

New Ixia Chariot Contact Center solution proactively validates and hardens critical customer service infrastructure to prepare for peak seasons and the inevitable TDoS attack

CALABASAS, CA — May 14, 2013 —Ixia (Nasdaq: XXIA) now offers a solution to validate and harden the critical infrastructures of enterprise contact centers, which continues to grow in importance during the age of social media and an always-on environment. The new Ixia Chariot Contact Center, based on the award-winning IxChariot network assessment technology, enables enterprises to proactively assess the performance, scalability and security of their IP communications infrastructures at any load.

Poor customer service experiences can quickly turn viral and damage a company’s reputation, and untested infrastructures along with the effects of increasing targeted telephony denial of service (TDoS) attacks can lead to significant losses of loyal customers and sales. The Chariot Contact Center solution’s fast, easy-to-use testing validates the reliability of contact center networks and mitigates current infrastructure concerns. The resulting actionable insights enable an enterprise to know, not guess, how the contact center will respond during the most important customer engagement seasons and the times most vulnerable to malicious attacks.

News highlights

Traditionally, enterprise contact center managers have not had the necessary tools to actively test how their infrastructures will hold up under real-world conditions, and capacity testing was largely ignored. Sporadic testing coupled with the increasing use of TDoS attacks meant that costly downtime was inevitable. Now, with the Chariot Contact Center solution, within minutes enterprises can create a call tree of any volume and run multiple simulated scenarios to assess and validate the contact center network’s reliability.

The powerful Ixia Chariot Contact Center solution offers an intuitive web-based user interface with drop-downs and form-fills that use common call center terms to guide users through test case creation, deployment and reporting. Providing medium to massive-scale, high-fidelity simulations of protocols and caller traffic, the solution combines the needed capabilities to:

Validate IVR menus.

Test automatic call distributors.

Model contact center traffic.

Verify emergency call systems and robot calls.

Validate threat-blocking policies.

Measure quality of experience.

The Ixia Chariot Contact Center solution gives enterprises the confidence that critical communications infrastructures will handle heavy call loads, route calls as expected and maintain exceptional voice quality.

Industry commentary

“SecureLogix helps protect many contact center environments from TDoS attacks, which involve burst calls meant to flood and overwhelm corporate voice resources,” said David Heard, SecureLogix Vice President of Product Management and Marketing. “Ixia’s solutions are an important component of TDoS prevention, allowing an enterprise to stress-test its infrastructure, profile its vulnerability level to TDoS and better ensure business continuity.”

“The enterprise contact center infrastructure is becoming more complex even as the importance of stellar customer service continues to grow. Fortunately, Ixia was able to leverage its core technology expertise to develop a solution that easily tests and assesses the quality of experience in the network to help enterprises maintain superior customer contact centers with rock-solid network infrastructures,” said Don Shin, Sr. Product Marketing Manager of Ixia. “By providing an easy-to-use way of validating critical customer service infrastructures at load, Ixia’s Chariot Contact Center solution answers a growing and important need for today’s enterprises.”

Ixia will unveil the Chariot Contact Center solution in booth No. 239 at the premier global gathering for the contact center, ACCE 2013, taking place in Seattle, WA, May 13-15.

We live in an increasingly ubiquitously connected world. We are surrounded by intelligent electronics that provide us with access to an ever-expanding range of services. Simplistic, single-function, standalone black boxes have been replaced with vibrant service-enabled devices that derive their value from internet-based content and applications—and from their interactions with each other. At Devicescape, we refer to this image as the devicescape, and this vision shapes our mission and fuels our passion.

Connecting the Devicescape

Of course, a connected world demands a network, and a service-enabled device needs a connection mechanism. Devicescape believes that Wi-Fi has a critical role to play in this, as a widely deployed, high-performance, low-cost technology that is ideal for mass connectivity. And so we began the company with the goal of harnessing Wi-Fi to mediate among devices, the network, and services.

History: Devices

Our history begins with devices—enabling the world’s most innovative electronics companies to create outstanding products with secure, high-performance, and easy-to-use Wi-Fi. Our products initially powered enterprise and home connectivity for hundreds of millions of handsets, PCs, game systems, and consumer and office electronics at companies like Motorola, HP, Nokia, BlackBerry, Intel, Nintendo, Samsung, NEC, and Brother. Later, as Wi-Fi migrated into public spaces, we began work on mobile connectivity using public Wi-Fi and in particular embracing the concept of intelligent network selection and an "always best connected" experience.

Curation

Originally focused on developing Wi-Fi software for a plethora of internet-enabled consumer devices, Devicescape today builds on more than a decade of experience in magnifying mobile network capabilities and elevating the mobile experience. At the heart of all this expertise in Wi-Fi, mobile, and virtualization is the Devicescape-inspired approach of curation. In the wireless network context, curation is the art of carefully discovering, qualifying, and preserving both the best network to connect to at the best time and an "über-net" of high-quality amenity Wi-Fi hotspots that take the "always best connected" user experience to the next level.

The Curated Virtual Network

Devicescape created the concept of the Curated Virtual Network. The CVN is a massive global network formed from the millions of small Wi-Fi networks already deployed in our public spaces, typically as an amenity for customers and citizens. Through our patented curation processes, we discover and constantly evaluate the capability of each network location, filtering the best down into a high-quality subset that acts as a single virtual network. The CVN leverages the best qualities of Wi-Fi—cost, ubiquity, performance—to provide a huge network with unparalleled characteristics for devices and the services they provide.

Intelligent network selection

Mobile devices are defined by their network connection. Recently, with the explosion of smartphones and tablets and with soaring demand for media-intensive services, mobile operators and other service providers have adopted a variety of strategies for managing the huge growth in data consumption. A key strategy is the integration of Wi-Fi into the overall network to help expand capacity-reach. Devicescape’s Curator Service Platform, with or without the CVN, is designed to help operators and other service providers perform intelligent network selection—to choose the best network for the task, whether it's the mobile network, their own Wi-Fi network, a partner Wi-Fi network, or the Devicescape CVN. This defines the future of Devicescape, as we continue to expand our leadership in Wi-Fi while expanding its complementary relationship with other connection methodologies.

In 1999 several visionary leaders came together to form a global non-profit organization with the goal of driving adoption of high-speed wireless local area networking. We are that organization.

Today, in every continent, one in ten people around the world use Wi-Fi at home, at work, in countless ways. Wi-Fi adoption continues to grow, and common goals still bind together more than 500 Wi-Fi Alliance member companies from dozens of countries. The original goal of the visionary leaders that formed the Wi-Fi Alliance in 1999 has been realized, and yet the Wi-Fi Alliance is not done. The innovation and thought leadership of the Wi-Fi Alliance continues to drive new Wi-Fi applications and products, and it continues to enrich our lives. Register to download the Wi-Fi Alliance 2012 Annual Report.

Deutsche Telekom has identified four strategic areas of action to help get itself in shape for the future.

The company is consistently opening up growth areas and is increasingly developing into a multiple product company. In traditional telephone business, the focus is on stabilizing fixed-network and mobile revenue and continuing with successful business models. In addition, the innovation and growth areas initiated back in 2010 are being further developed: mobile Internet, the connected home, Internet offerings, T-Systems, cloud services, and intelligent networks for energy, healthcare and automotive.

Deutsche Telekom offers a broad range of communication, entertainment and IT services from a single source both for consumers and business customers. The solid foundation for this offering is and will continue to be a state-of-the-art network infrastructure. Deutsche Telekom's objective is to be its customers' first choice for connected life and work. In order to achieve this, the company has chosen to focus on four strategic areas:

Integrated networks for the gigabit society
We want to offer our customers the fastest and best connections at all times, without them having to worry about the technology. The goal is to provide seamless access, regardless of whether our customers are using smartphones, laptops, tablets or other devices.

More innovation by cooperation
We want to increasingly implement new ideas and developments on the basis of partnerships: In addition to in-house developments such as Entertain, the Media Center and PagePlace, we intend to establish partnerships and joint ventures to produce new services and offerings. We will make greater use of our venture capital company T-Venture in future in order to play a greater role in innovation. In addition, our new "incubator" for start-ups allows us to support innovative business ideas from the earliest stages of their development.

Secure cloud solutions
Cloud services, tailored to customer requirements, are becoming increasingly significant and represent a promising market. Based on T-Systems' experience as a pioneer in business customer offerings, we now provide cloud solutions for all groups of customers, whether consumers or business customers – in short, the "cloud for all."

Customer delight drives our action
We are pursuing the ambitious goal of delighting our customers, with our service and network quality, of course, but also with reliable, user-friendly and fairly-priced products and services. To do so, we are adopting new approaches to service as well. Our "Telekom helps" service channels on Facebook and Twitter are already very successful.

Ruckus Wireless is a pioneer in the wireless infrastructure market, enabling carriers and enterprises to stay ahead of the exploding demand for high-bandwidth applications and services. The Ruckus Smart Wi-Fi technology redefines what’s possible in wireless network performance with flexibility, reliability, and affordability. We call this Pervasive Performance.

We've been singularly focused on Pervasive Performance in wireless since beginning operations in 2004, and we continue to lead the industry in performance innovation. We have never relied on off-the-shelf, reference design radio technology – it just doesn’t deliver the capacity, range or interference mitigation necessary to make the dream of high performance wireless a reality. Instead, we’ve assembled a team of the best and brightest wireless minds in the world to deliver the creative solutions needed to realize our Pervasive Performance vision.

So what is Pervasive Performance?

To all of us at Ruckus, it's our mantra. It's what we live every day; the first thought on our minds while we're enjoying our morning coffee to the last thing we think about as we’re wishing our families a restful sleep. It's our ultimate goal.

To you, it may seem like a marketing term…but it's not. It's a combination of innovative features needed to achieve the goal of delivering the most consistent and highest-speed wireless performance possible – anywhere, everywhere, all the time. Let us explain the various components that are absolutely necessary to achieve this unprecedented level of wireless performance:

Adaptive Signal Control
– your grandfather’s omni-directional antenna configs won’t cut it any longer.

Interference Mitigation
– there’s plenty of noise out there, and it’s only going to get louder.

Capacity-driven Channel Assignment
– long gone are the days of "set-it-and-forget-it" channel planning. Let's get dynamic, people.

Dynamic Polarization Diversity
– client devices are becoming increasingly small, smart and mobile…yesterday's fixed polarity just won't deliver acceptable connectivity to this Generation Next mobile device.

Maximized Signal Strength
– dBs are sexy. Well, maybe only to us radio heads…but they sure make a difference in wireless connectivity.

Network Capacity Optimization
– forget how many Mbps it says on the box or the Website or the datasheet…the only thing that matters is how much you can really get through the pipes. It takes some serious intelligence to maximize the real capacity of wireless.

Ruckus can provide all of the components necessary to deliver Pervasive Performance. Sure, there are plenty of companies who can claim a few of these features, but none can provide the complete package. That's why Ruckus has and continues to be a market leader in smart wireless systems. It's simply the smartest wireless for a mobile world.

It all starts with our patented Smart Wi-Fi technology and its unique ability to extract unmatched capacity and reliability out of the 802.11 standards. Smart Wi-Fi leverages high-gain adaptive antenna technology and sophisticated best-path-selection algorithms to form and direct Wi-Fi signals over the highest performance paths to each and every client. Browse through our whitepapers and videos to learn about this technology in much more detail. Here, we’ll just say that it's so unique and powerful that we've been granted 60 patents – with more than 82 pending.

With this technology, we're able to do something that basic wireless technology can't – deliver longer range and more reliable Wi-Fi connections to client devices; Wi-Fi that reaches farther and is inherently more stable due to the adaptive nature and control of our technology. Smart Wi-Fi constantly steers signals around obstructions and obstacles, mitigates interference, and focuses RF energy only where it's needed to ensure unprecedented coverage and consistent performance at longer ranges.

Ruckus Wi-Fi systems, with on our with our patented BeamFlex™ technology, are deployed in hundreds of thousands of locations across the globe. Our flagship product line, ZoneFlex™ Smart WLAN WLAN systems gives enterprises and carriers a full-range of indoor and outdoor Wi-Fi solutions for every imaginable application from streaming IP-based video over Wi-Fi to 3G offloading, wireless broadband access to high-speed 802.11n wireless LANs. ZoneFlex is the only centralized Smart WLAN system that combines Smart Wi-Fi and Smart Mesh networking technology within a single, powerful, wallet-friendly solution.

Ruckus Wireless delivers innovative solutions to the most critical issues facing today’s wireless networks: how to create affordable reliability and how to manage exponential growth. Ruckus hardware, software, and services help enterprises and carriers increase the range and reliability of their Wi-Fi networks, reduce the cost of deployment, and ensure consistent performance even in the most challenging environments.

It's what we do. It's in our DNA. And we're proudly leading the charge to deliver, to demand, Pervasive Performance in wireless connectivity.
